Australia competition regulator allowed to intervene in Epic Games- Apple suit

Australia’s competition regulator, the ACCC, won Federal Court permission to intervene in the Epic Games v Apple litigation and may recommend remedies for Apple (AAPL.OQ). The intervention follows a prior ruling that Apple breached competition laws by restricting alternative app distribution and in-app payments; Alphabet/Google (GOOGL.OQ) was also found in breach and reached a global settlement with Epic. The ACCC said the orders could have wide-ranging implications for mobile app distribution and in‑app payments in Australia. Relief hearings resume April 28, creating legal and regulatory risk that could affect Apple’s app-store economics and investor sentiment depending on any remedial measures imposed.
