AEP, Amazon, and X-energy Partner to Explore 960 MW Indiana Nuclear Project

American Electric Power has signed a joint development agreement with Amazon and X-energy to assess the feasibility of a 960-megawatt advanced nuclear energy project in Sullivan County, Indiana. The proposed facility would deploy 12 of X-energy's 80 MW Xe-100 small modular reactors at the retired Breed Generating Station coal plant site. Amazon will provide development funding and intends to purchase the electricity under a long-term contract designed to cover full operational and capital costs. The agreement represents the second commercial deployment under Amazon and X-energy's initiative to add more than 5 GW of nuclear capacity by 2039.
