Amazon Launches Open-Source TorchNeuron Tool to Challenge Nvidia AI Moat

Amazon Web Services has launched TorchNeuron, a free open-source tool enabling artificial intelligence developers to run PyTorch code directly on proprietary Trainium chips. The software, developed by Amazon's Annapurna Labs unit, requires only a single configuration change, directly targeting the switching costs anchored by Nvidia's proprietary CUDA computing ecosystem. More than 30 early customers, including AI voice provider Deepgram, have adopted the platform. The move comes as Amazon's custom AI chip business reached a $25 billion annualized revenue run rate in the second quarter, seeking to expand internal silicon adoption against Nvidia.
