Bhutan's Gelephu Mindfulness City Partners With 3iQ to Manage Sovereign Bitcoin Treasury

Bhutan's Gelephu Mindfulness City has partnered with Canadian digital asset manager 3iQ Corp. to actively manage a portion of its Bitcoin treasury holdings, marking the first recorded instance of an external manager overseeing sovereign Bitcoin reserves. Under the agreement, 3iQ will execute low-risk, market-neutral yield strategies rather than leaving assets idle in cold storage. The initiative builds on an allocation of up to 10,000 BTC in December 2025 by King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck to support the city's development. As of mid-2026, Bhutan holds about 5,600 BTC, down from previous peaks near 13,000 BTC.
