Bitcoin Rebounds Above $80,000 Following Geopolitical Tensions and Heavy Crypto Deleveraging

Bitcoin traded near $80,240 on Monday after dipping below the key $80,000 threshold over the weekend, touching lows near $79,100. The retreat was triggered by escalating Middle East tensions after the U.S. issued evacuation orders and travel advisories amid Iranian threats, pushing Brent crude to roughly $117. The geopolitical shock sparked severe risk-off sentiment and cascaded into derivatives markets, unwinding more than $834 million in crypto positions in 24 hours, predominantly hitting long contracts. Downward pressure was further amplified by institutional retrenchment, with U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs registering roughly $773.5 million in net outflows across two consecutive sessions.
