BlackRock Files With SEC for Bitcoin ETF Offering Downside Protection

BlackRock has submitted an application to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to launch a managed protection Bitcoin ETF. The proposed fund provides upside exposure to the flagship iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) while embedding built-in downside protection to limit losses during market declines. The move marks BlackRock's third Bitcoin-focused ETF, following the January 2024 launch of IBIT and the June 2026 rollout of the iShares Bitcoin Premium Income ETF (BITA). IBIT currently manages over $65 billion in assets, while BlackRock's total digital asset ETF assets reached approximately $80 billion in Q3 2026.
