Canadian Judge Orders Bitcoin Wallet Laptop Returned to Convicted Killer's Family

A Nova Scotia Supreme Court judge has ordered the return of a laptop containing a Bitcoin wallet to the family of convicted killer William Sandeson. Justice John Bodurtha ruled that prosecutors failed to prove the cryptocurrency constituted proceeds of crime or had a direct connection to the 2015 murder of Taylor Samson. While the court ordered the device released, it upheld the forfeiture of C$5,000 in cash found hidden in a garbage can. The value of the Bitcoin wallet remains contested, ranging from Sandeson's estimate of C$8,000 to C$10,000 to over C$200,000 cited by the victim's family.
