Ethereum Delays Glamsterdam Testnet Upgrade Over Smart Contract Gas Repricing Risks

Ethereum core developers have paused the Glamsterdam upgrade on the Hoodi testnet while they resolve eight smart contract security risks. The hold stems from gas accounting changes under EIP-8037 and EIP-8038 that alter pricing mechanisms for creating and accessing blockchain state, which could break contracts reliant on fixed gas budgets or specific failure conditions. Glamsterdam launched on the Sepolia testnet on October 6, but its Hoodi activation—originally slated for October 26—now lacks a replacement date following an October 13 ChainSecurity audit report. Development of the subsequent Hegota upgrade continues in parallel without interruption.
