Ethereum Glamsterdam Fork Deposit Vulnerability Leaves Staking Mitigation to Application Layer

Staking operators and liquid staking protocols must implement application-level defenses after Ethereum developers declined to implement a protocol-level fix for a Glamsterdam fork deposit vulnerability. The issue allows ETH deposits intended for validators to be front-run or misrouted to builder accounts due to shared deposit queues, new 0xB0 withdrawal credentials, and conflicting pending deposits during the fork transition. A proposed specification change for pre-deposit checks was closed on October 19 without implementation. Glamsterdam is slated for the Hoodi testnet on October 26, 2026, ahead of an expected Q4 2026 mainnet launch.
