Fed's Musalem Calls for Rate Hikes Soon as Persistent Inflation Pressures Continue

St. Louis Fed President Alberto Musalem stated that tighter monetary policy will be needed soon, arguing that incremental increases now will avoid disruptive tightening later. Speaking at the Shadow Open Market Committee, Musalem noted that PCE inflation remains above 3% and financial conditions remain accommodative despite resilient 3.4% GDP growth and a 4.2% unemployment rate. His hawkish remarks boosted market expectations for a December policy move, with the CME FedWatch tool indicating traders are pricing in an approximate 74.1% to 76% probability of a 25-basis-point interest rate increase.
