Meta Postpones New Commercial Terms Indefinitely Following Publisher Backlash and Regulatory Complaints

Meta Platforms has indefinitely postponed the rollout of its updated commercial terms and advertising policies following backlash from publishers and advertisers. The delay keeps existing terms in place while Meta conducts extensive industry consultations expected to extend beyond November 20. The retreat follows formal complaints submitted to antitrust regulators in the European Union and the United Kingdom, as well as an injunction filed in Oslo District Court by ten Norwegian media groups, including NRK and Schibsted. Publishers alleged the revised terms granted Meta unauthorized rights to scrape paywalled content for artificial intelligence training, claims Meta has rejected.
