Protesters breach Microsoft data center construction site in Amsterdam over AI concerns
Demonstrators broke into a Microsoft Corporation data center construction site on the outskirts of Amsterdam on Friday to disrupt building operations. Activists affiliated with the Dutch collective Geef Tegengas scaled security fences, climbed a construction crane, displayed anti-artificial intelligence banners, and set off flares. Around 100 to hundreds of participants took part, citing environmental damage, heavy drinking water consumption, and strain on the local electrical grid. The incident marks renewed opposition against Microsoft's infrastructure expansion in the Netherlands following a previous protest that temporarily halted work at the same location in June.
