Swiss October Inflation Accelerates to 1.5% as Energy Costs Drive Headline Gains

Swiss annual headline inflation rose to 1.5% in October, exceeding expectations of 1.3% and advancing from 1.0% in the previous month. On a monthly basis, the consumer price index gained 0.2% versus expectations of a flat reading. However, underlying price pressures remained subdued, with core inflation holding steady at 0.5% year-on-year and 0.0% month-on-month. Surging energy costs accounted for roughly 96% of the net monthly rise, propelled by increases in heating oil, diesel, and petrol, while domestic product prices fell 0.1% month-on-month. The narrow concentration in energy suggests limited pressure on the Swiss National Bank for immediate policy changes.
