Tech Investors Rush to Hedge AI Downside as Debt Insurance Costs Spike

Investors are aggressively seeking downside protection against an artificial intelligence market downturn amid concerns over multitrillion-dollar infrastructure investments. Default insurance costs for mega-cap tech giants including Amazon, Alphabet, Microsoft, Meta Platforms, and Oracle reached their highest levels since 2021, with Oracle's credit-default swap spreads widening by more than one percentage point. The surge in risk aversion followed a 2.9% drop in the Nasdaq Composite on Friday, marking its worst month since March 2025. In response, trading firms including Jump Trading and Susquehanna are rolling out specialized computing-power derivatives as Nvidia B300 chip rental prices rose 56% to $7.56 per hour.
