Tesla Starts Optimus Humanoid Production in Fremont, Targeting 20,000 Weekly Run-Rate

Tesla has commenced manufacturing production-quality Optimus humanoid robots at its Fremont, California plant. Chief Executive Elon Musk stated reaching an annualized target run-rate of 20,000 units weekly will take at least a year or longer, with initial customer deliveries targeted by the end of 2027. Production started after Tesla halted Model S and Model X manufacturing in Fremont to convert space for an assembly line targeting one million units per year. To train the robots, Tesla plans to build 10,000 to 20,000 units for an internal 'Optimus Academy' to generate training data through self-play.
