U.S.-Backed Venezuela Oil Deal Faces Operational Hurdles Despite Ambitious Production Targets

Severe operational and financial obstacles are challenging North American Blue Energy Partners' plans to boost Venezuelan crude output across 17 oilfields to over 1 million barrels per day. Although NABEP expanded production by 20,000 boepd since August to roughly 223,500–224,000 bpd and plans to double its active rigs in the Junin area to six, industry experts warn targets are unrealistic. Hurdles include contractor debts, infrastructure degradation, and banking access issues, with about 80% of 4,000 inactive Maracaibo basin wells needing repair, limiting realistically recoverable reserves to 10 billion barrels over 25 years.
