US Becomes Net Bitcoin Importer for First Time Since 2022 on Institutional Inflows

The United States became a net importer of bitcoin for the first time since 2022 during the 12-month period ending June 30, 2026. This transition was driven by institutional transfers exceeding $10 million, which delivered a net inflow of 53,200 bitcoin valued at roughly $4.3 billion. Conversely, retail transfers under $10,000 consistently posted net outflows. The structural shift follows steady gains in the U.S. share of global bitcoin activity since spot ETFs launched in January 2024, despite global crypto capitalization falling by $2.1 trillion and on-chain activity dipping 1.6% to $9.4 trillion.
