Vitalik Buterin Unveils Privacy-Focused AI Agent Architecture Featuring 'Paranoid Mode'

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has unveiled an experimental confidential AI agent system called 'paranoid mode' designed to prevent identity and data leaks. Developed as a custom daemon client for the AI platform Pi, the architecture uses local models like qwen3-8b-flash to paraphrase prompts, routes traffic via sandboxed Tor circuits, generates cover traffic, and pays for commercial AI APIs anonymously using zkAPI. Although the setup faces latency and elevated zero-knowledge transaction gas expenses, an upcoming Ethereum mainnet upgrade is planned to significantly reduce ZK gas costs.
